It's not like this by chance, it's intentional. While I don't think that would fix everything, I actually do think that would fix a bunch of issues we have in society today. Americans tend to overcompensate when addressing issues. Forcibly restricting women from working wasn't right... but the current extreme view that women have to work a career or they're horrible people is a massive over correction.
How a couple decides to balance work/home life should be between them and no one else. If they both want to work, fine. If they want the man to work and the woman to be the home caretaker, that's fine too.

I dont think it's intentional, there's not some group of people sitting around deciding this is the way life will be.
It's a result of reality and survival over the millennia of evolution. Males being the stronger of the sex took care of the hunting and fighting. Females being the physically weaker sex and the ones to bear children did that.
Females sought to mate with stronger males because it would mean they would be protected and their children would have a better chance at survival. males sought females who would be the best at raising their children. Those evolutionary pressures led to very big differences between males and females over hundreds of thousands of years.
The result of that is that males see other males as competition so generally wont do anything to help a random male who needs help. A family member or a close member of his tribe he will because it will benefit him. But otherwise he's going to be at best indifferent to the suffering of other men. Males generally will be more protective of females... even the females of other males, because those females are potential breeding partners in the future. If their male dies... well he gets another female to breed.

So yea, the deck is stacked against Men in many ways. That's just due to the difficulty to survive in a hostile world. Things are totally different now, but our base instincts and behaviors exist for living in a very different world than we live in today. Go back 100 years and those base behaviors were still an advantage in the world.
The species is not going to change in 100 years. Our bodies and subconscious is operating just like our ancient ancestors. The problem is we're living in a weird modern world today.
