This musical Play was a very popular diversion during the Great War

Jack Johnson, Jim Jeffries, 1910 Reno. Jeffries was The Great White Hope" a retired World Heavyweight brought back to defend the "Honor" of White America. When he lost, he was accused of taking a dive, and a bunch of other trashmouth. The only person defending Jeffries after the fight, was Johnson, who called Jeffries "The Gamest Man I've ever known"....This was after they had sneaked Johnson out of town on a railroad "Special" to keep him from being lynched. TheMarker for the site, now a scrapyard, is about three miles from me.
