This is The Peace Cross, dedicated in 1925, to memorialize 49 local Veterans of the World War, in Bladensburg, Md. As years have passed, it has come to represent Veterans of other Wars, and even engendered a bit of war itself over a perceived "Establishment" issue. The Cross is safe at this point, fortunately.
