Deep quotes you heard or made up?

"You see, it's how I've always said, 'you get more with a kind word and a two by four than with a kind word alone'."

"You know, I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them. So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe."

OK, where'd you dig up that gem?

Don't shove your belief that I shouldn't shove my beliefs down people's throats down my throat.

Marcus Cole, Babylon 5
Ahhh... That's why it sounds at least somewhat familiar. B5 and ST:TNG (And while it lasted, Space: Above and Beyond) were slotted against each other in my TV market, so I never caught more than a few eps of B5 as reruns. Watched trek, Taped S:A&B, and had to settle for catching the occasional episode of B5 as a rerun (and liked what I DID catch, just not as much as I liked Trek and the Chigs and Tanks) One of these days, I need to see if I can hunt up a torrent with the full run and binge it. It always seemed like there was SOMETHING good happening when I caught an episode, despite having what struck me as a pretty serious "Days of Our Lives/Another World/General Hospital" style soap-opera vibe to it.

It was great, though you wouldn't hurt to just skip the 5th and final season. It was originally plotted for 5 seasons, but early in season 4 word came down that the network it was on was going off the air. They didn't think they'd be able to find another network to air the final season so they rewrote the 2nd half of season 4 to cover the most important plot points of season 5. Then it was picked up for the final season by TNT so they were forced to stretch out all the lesser plots that got left on the cutting room floor to fill the season, and it just drags on.

Marcus is by far the best character, pissed to this day that they killed him off.

Despite my fondness for sci-fi I never actually watched Star Trek. I've been trying to rectify that but it's slow going; that first season of TOS is pretty rough at points.

TOS was shit. There's a reason it was cancelled after 2 seasons when it was intended to run 5, even an unprecedented cult write-in campaign to "save" it only managed to bring it back for 1 more season.

Vindication!

 Still, it would feel pretty silly to not include it on the Star Trek "required reading" list.

"Why's it always 'thin air'? Never fat air, chubby air, mostly fit but could stand to loose a few pounds air?"

"She said that you have been, in her words, carrying on cranky. I looked up the word cranky, it said grouchy. I looked up the word grouchy, it said crotchety. No wonder you have such an eccentric culture. None of your words have their own meanings. You have to look up one word to understand another. It never ends."

"Something here doesn't make sense."

"That is what I thought when I came across 'crotchety'. This cannot be a real word, I said."

"Legs get funny when you get older. You're sitting, they wanna stand. You stand, they wanna lay down. You lay down, they wanna go for a walk."

"It is a sad truth. As one accumulates power, one loses friends. One only has those who wish to use you, and those you wish to use."

"If you're going to be worried every time the universe doesn't make sense, you're going to be worried every moment of every day for the rest of your natural life."
