Never done the missionary without the dog humping away. Not in doggie either.
Yes, as I am not into male dogs, it's a bit differently layered. ? Female dogs don't always hump at all (or not long), it's more of a stimulation related effect and can occur on their orgasms as well. They usually don't just go behind you and try to jump & hump you. If they do, it's mostly declaring of you as the "lower" one, requesting you to respect them and show this somewhat.
The "alpha"-behavior is not made out of fantasy, even if it doesn't resemble what most people understand from it. And that - what people imagined about it - was debunked, not the actual pack order. It's quite logical that a social structure needs ranks to function, as else there's no trust and no following in it (and it dies out).
For animals only living in relationships with single individuals or just timed while reproduction period occurs, this is differently layered, but a wolf pack stays together quite much (except if one decides to split / leave, which can lead others into following him/her, as example if a young wolf matures and decides to fund his / her own pack).
It is as well a changing position (and other pack members can try to obtain a position by fighting for it, tho), there are mostly even two to three more-or-less leading individuals at the same time, but they often don't exactly respect each other's opinions that much (depends on how trusted one of them is).
As such to "hump" another pack member is comparable to pissing on it. And yes, female dogs do this as well, if they think they can obtain more respect by doing so. Ever saw a female dog urinate on the feet / shoes of a female human you talked with? I did..
