Where my nerdy zoos at?

Just throwing it out there - would anyone be up for a telegram group that's dedicated for nerdy zoos? Really looking to expand my zoo social circle but with people that have actual passions in life as opposed to just fetishists ahah
Honestly, that would be reason enough for me to make an account lol

i would be interested in it but tbh i dont use telegram that much, i open it to see some messages like once a moth :p

I'm a recent addition and this is my first real post apart from my intro. Once of my goals in joining was to just chill with like minded people where you were more comfortable being yourself.

So I was wondering if there was any other self confessed zoos out there who enjoy tech, enjoy engineering, technology, space, whatever. What I'd really love is if I met a could of people here to just chat too regularly about cool shit we were working on or something that happened. And of course nerdy doesn't just have to mean academic, if you're a board game lover, tabletop lover, or dnd enjoyer I'd love to hear from you too :)

I'm a bit of a jack of all trades myself but I'd say my passions of the moment are distributed computing/storage, cryptography, infrastructure design, space communications..

I'm always down to chat about whatever, so feel free to hit me up if you see me around :)
Oh, how did I miss this thread, lol I think all of us nerds are secretly into zoo, right? lol

actually quite fun and interesting video, also i liked how it turned into a "pearl"-like yellow thing, even if the guy himself didnt wanted it to turn yellow (lol)

but the other video you sent is too much information at least for me, i didnt understand a single thing on it ?
The one chem guy has a bad habbit of not quite good set up, but he makes it work.

I need to get a furnace and crucibles my self, or one those micro wave units, may be worth re-configuring one to make it dedicated

its not exactly the same but since i was 14 - 15 i always wanted to have a smelting forge just to randomly make bars from molten metal or even make some tools from molds

For some reason I think nerds are more likely to be into this kind of thing, just from curiosity... lol. Anyway big nerd here, feel free to msg if you are too and like to chat zoo!

Nerd here! Physics and (video)games are my specialty :p

Really like the initiative of this thread. Fun to find and discover these type of things on here.

You sound like a lot of fun to talk to yah ! I'm nerdy as fuck that's for sure x) play all kinds of table top games and a huge geek for all sorts of games ❤️ If you wanna chat hit me up !

I'm a science and history nerd. I enjoy watching Cosmos with Sagan and NDT. Ken Ham documentaries too. There's a few naval history YT channels I'm a patron for. And I'm also into firearms history. Throw on a Nature documentary and I'll be happy too. I also try to read 1 non fiction book a month, usually history. The last 2 months has been 1 book cause it's a monster lol.

I'm little bit nerdy too. I'm statue and figurine collector (I have few zoo related figurines as well), also I love reading books and comic stories. My fav hobby is stargazing, astronomy, gaming (ps5), science and graphic design. My nerdy lifestyle is colliding with my job (kinda serious duty) but is well expressed in my private space. Everyone who coming to my flat is certain that weirdo living here. Posters, lot of collectibles, some handmade soft content artworks with women and animals on wall etc. As a nerd I'm never bored, always is something to do. If I'm not playing games - I'm doing graphics. If I wanna go outside I drive my car to sea coast. Meg, my fiancee she is nerdy too, she loves fantasy books, Netflix, dragons, werewolves, vampires etc. Sometimes we spending all day with watching tv like yesterday and today for example.

Books, biology, pinball, philosophy... I'd say I'm kind of nerdy. To be honest though, all of the space stuff and physics never really interested me, fiction or science. But, a lot of stuff I'm nerdy about.

I like to say I'm a geek. Sci-fi, nature shows, space documentaries, history shows, aliens!, latest tech trends, electrical tech, radio tech, A/V,etc

May we see some of those zoo figurines? Won’t lie you’ve piqued my curiosity

This guy is great been watching his stuff for a long while. Great sense of humor up my ally.
Can be frustrating though, distill distill and distill again! ya it sucks, it is tedious but if you want results of good quality purification is very crucial, and some of his practical set up could use a bit of work, save him some sanity. I had to do a massive Hydrazine synth, to remake a crap load of Hydrazine sulfate as I used up a bunch making Aminoguanidine.

Making the Calcium Cyanamide via coal for heat is where I think it took a nose dive, I need to make an electric furnace that the temp can be better controlled, will use a PID controller for it, then flush with argon

A small impurity can make life frustrating, that and mixing, I finally got a over head stirrer so hoping next attempt goes better

You are the real deal! Massive hydrazine syth sounds scary. I'm no chemist but do enjoy learning about it. In see you actually practice very cool. PID controllers are cheap and effective. I retrofitted my espresso machine's archaic thermostat with one and a solid state relay , much better control.

Been building one for my heating mantle as well, did the same with an SSR can't wait to get it going.

And it isn't scary but stinks, you get that really musty hay smell kick the extraction fan on high, but I got a good method developed to keep it pretty sealed through the whole process, air destroyed yeild!

Making chloroform is the scary one! that gets run away you got hours of cleaning, and a stain on the roof that is for life <_< (I use the calcium hypochlorite method as less volumes of liquid to manage, but due to the lower thermal mass it is easier to go into runaway with out careful control via mixing and cooling bath, feed rate)

in my case a small chunk managed to not get mixed so on final stage a nasty surprise, go to reflux and ended up with a volcano.
