Where my nerdy zoos at?

I started to use Proxmox 6 months ago and wondering why did I not do that before. A long time ago, I was using SolusVM since I wanted to do a small hosting company. Never worked out, so kept it for my use and other uses for zoo sites.
Now run two servers with Proxmox. The last straw to move over when the hard drive failed, bought the other hard drives from the provider and let the server die.
I use unraid at home with Docker, but may check out flatcar now that I see it.

Just to catch up with the programming talk, I at one point wanted to learn PHP or may be Java. Most of my experience was programming IRC scripts and the most I did in PHP was fixing a file that worked for an older version.
PHP is a crazy language but if you can get through it the field still has a big need for those who know how to develop in PHP. Wordpress is still in PHP and it’s half of the sites on the internet.

i like to think i am a nerd... kinda like the dolphins i love... i like to use linux (arch) and learned alot about security and crypto to stay safe...

I honestly think in the next 5 years. Over 80% of code is going to be written by AI. It will get to the point where you just need to see if it “looks right” or not.
this scares me... i also know enough about AI (lots of math) and do enough programming (rust) to know chatgpt code is wrong most of the time... at least, everything i ask it gives wrong answer... maybe it doesnt understand me or maybe rust is too hard for it to understand either lol

Due to the nature of my work, I get access to different AI models and I am part of the team responsible for testing.

AI certainly does have its limitations. If you ask it to “improve my code”. It has no idea what an improvement would look like.

However, if you ask it to write an if then statement to return a segment of data from a MySQL database. I haven’t had any problems asking it targeted questions like that.

I've heard about C# when i was messing with the Unity engine years ago. Probably a more useful language. But can you convert C# code to run on a raspberry pi?

You would need to compile it into .NET but yes it’s possible for sure.

Once your application is compiled open the directory with the .csproj file in command promt. Type in dotnet publish -c release -r linux-arm in command promt. put the compiled files onto the pi then open a terminal window on the py and type chmod u+x <YourProjectName> then ./<YourProjectName> done.

I guess you could call me a "nerdneck" which is a redneck nerd. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades kinda guy as well. I'll dabble in things ranging from small engine repair to IT related stuff to casual gaming and game modding to repairing everyday household items like fans, sewing machines, remotes, air conditioning units... pretty much if it's broken I'm likely to try to get it working again before I give up on it, and 50/50 I'm successful at fixing whatever ends up breaking on me. I'm also fascinated with just trying to figure out how X item works internally in general. I've also considered just buying a really old beat up "farm" truck and teaching myself how to fix it, but for now I'm holding off on that. Although I'll occasionally tinker with my vehicle as well. Nothing major though, as I'm not a fully fledged mechanic in the slightest, just small stuff.

I also like learning about... well... whatever peaks my interest, ranging from psychology to science to repair (obviously.)

I promise you that there are PLENTY of nerdy zoophiles and kinksters out there. Sometimes I'll be in a new group of people (nerds) and I can pick up on certain mannerism or double-entendres that make it more and more obvious who they are beyond their social masks. It's so fun to start playfully pushing those buttons and watch their responses. Over the weekend I was at a party and one of the girls there had paw prints tattooed right on her waist where they would be if she were mounted. I was having a blast toying with her, right up until - in a private moment - she just looked at me and said "You know... right? You KNOW?" it was amazing.

Browsing the site more to find threads I can realte to and this is def one. Huge fan of geology and astrophysics! Tho im terrible with explanations, right now ive really been into the solar flares that were going on earlier this year. Thermodynamics of it all and what not, fascinating stuff honestly. Though we didnt see much if at all any affects from it, still good to be aware of it as the sun powers our planet basically.

Do i qualify as 'nerdy' enough... when i work out details of my fantasy, just to check how they would work out..? ?

For instance, one of mine is being driven on a car-powered sex-machine (inspired by House-of-Gord, go check them out, great stuff they make!).. and so i go on google earth, and check which roads would work out well for that, how long the road goes on, where security-camera's are, etc.etc... ?

i like board games and love digital games too and i really like sci-fi horror! one of my favorite movies that i have watched recently is "annihilation", pretty good movie and its on netflix >>

im also a digital artist! i create illustrations using adobe illustrator, idk if thats considered "nerdy" like programming but i dont see much difference tbh

I'm a recent addition and this is my first real post apart from my intro. Once of my goals in joining was to just chill with like minded people where you were more comfortable being yourself.

So I was wondering if there was any other self confessed zoos out there who enjoy tech, enjoy engineering, technology, space, whatever. What I'd really love is if I met a could of people here to just chat too regularly about cool shit we were working on or something that happened. And of course nerdy doesn't just have to mean academic, if you're a board game lover, tabletop lover, or dnd enjoyer I'd love to hear from you too :)

I'm a bit of a jack of all trades myself but I'd say my passions of the moment are distributed computing/storage, cryptography, infrastructure design, space communications..

I'm always down to chat about whatever, so feel free to hit me up if you see me around :)
The more uncomfortable situations people face the more comfortable people become. Funny how that works isn't it? People that often go on about comfort tend to be the quickest to be uncomfortable/insecure. Hence why I point it out. A lot of people avoid the "real talks" and "harder conversations". Only people that hold conversations make good shit happen.

I been on a computer my whole life. This might interest you. Did you know you can use task manager and close a programme that causes the screen to be black? As in doing it blind. I can do that. Just need to know the starting letter of whatever programme causes it (a game most likely).

The best talks are talking about "life lessons" though. People get too caught up in "looking" instead of "seeing". If you know what that means then you know.

Hmmm... And you're a philosopher huh? I could cover a lot about that.

Does engineering and building your own off grid power system and have hard driver filled with more material compatibilities and and thermal transfer properties then porn count?

Not much into games but have my own lab (Still building it up, want an FTIR and an NMR unit, wouldn't say no to a mas spec.)

Was into distributed computing for a bit but never found any serious utility in it, still do low level networking, played with fibre for a bit.

I abandoned a lot of it to go into the joys of sheep farming, kept the chemistry, rest is just utilitarian in terms of networking and electrical design to ever tweak and fine tune my systems

I'm studying in the electrical engineering field and didn't have that much programing stuff, mostly some GUI function block diagram programming. I had some C basic but i didn't really study it, i just studied enough to pass, maybe a little bit of cheating.
I wanna learn more about C (and C++), mostly for Raspberry Pi projects. Does anyone know any really simple noob friendly sources for C and C++ and any tips for learning it? I think we used 2 programs one was Raptor and the other was Dev C++ at school.
Deff keep practiced with soft ware, my largest regret was not getting more into programming, I was an analog guy and now days emulators can replace banks of discreet boards, and things are going ever more digital.

Just need to make small programs and go from there.

Big nerd here! I love all things audio from programming my own audio plugins to creating audio assets to implement into Unity/Unreal to writing my own music :) Recently been learning Max MSP for some generative sound design it's cool stuff!

Hello, fellow nerds! I’m a gamer, a science lover with a passion for physics, and I’ve dabbled in D&D as well.
I’ll confess that most of the code stuff in this thread is way over my head though, I know a bit of Python and have some Arduino experience but that’s the extent of my coding knowledge
