The 'Session' app: does anyone use it? (DO NOT POST YOUR ID HERE)

wish more people would use it but it seems like it's catching on at least. anything is better than telegram but even that still a million times better than discord, cant fucking believe people talk about zoo there

I use it! Not needing a phone number or email is really convenient, and the build-in VPN is quite great too. I appreciate apps that value privacy and keeping users anonymous.

Agree there! Tele has been moving in the wrong direction i feel, but yeah that is still much better than Discord. I would rate Wire better than Tele but Session seem to be better. Though early days, we never know how a platform evolves as more people use.

I've downloaded it but I don't know anyone to chat to on it
I am sure we are having more fellow zoo lovers joining now. And I will happily volunteer.

I've been auditing on and off for several months and have yet to find it leaking or phoning home. Seems pretty tight for one 2 one calls, and group chats (max 100 users), but community chats require a host node that is unencrptyed but the messages to and from that queue are e2e. Not as secure, and you have to trust the owner of the server that stores the message queue. Funny enough I actually specifically logged on today to reach out to other infosec/opsec folks on hear to see if anyone else has been looking into it ;p

I have been migrating to other apps since Wickr Me is going away. Here's what I've noticed.

Session has some good & bad qualities. It won't let me fix my typos and that drives me crazy. It strips metadata from pics. That's good & bad depending on your view. I edited some of my pics to replace the location & camera data with a brief profile in the metadata so its bad when I send those. Session lets others in the chat know when you deleted a message (like sending the wrong pic). Tattletale! You can't search for groups on there.

Discord lets you fix typos, but security isn't its focus. It doesn't strip metadata. I just installed Wire tonight. It lets me fix typos and it doesn't strip the metadata. It also lets me delete messages without tattling on me. So far, can't search for groups on Wire.

I was told about it today and wonder if anyone here uses it to message privately and with everything encrypted, including files and images.
I've used it for a month or so...... I find it useful and easy to use (other than the "session ID" it generates, but you can set your messages to automatically delete after a certain time - very useful.
