In my experience its not tasted too bad either if anything ive liked the taste. Your description sounds about right, id go along the lines of sweet, salty or earthy. Not too sure how else i could put it into words.
Id not say that ive licked particularly dirty ass but ive made no prior effort to clean it beforehand. Ive tried between maybe 10 mins after going for a "walk" and an unknown time of at least a couple of hours.
