Take him to a groomer and ask for a "sanitary trim" to trim the furr around his hole. After that wait a little bit after he does his "business" then wipe him with a warm wet washcloth then go to town. I tried to rim my male golden once after I wiped him down but he wasn't having it and after a few minutes he walked away.
