This is a maned wolf. It is neither a wolf nor a fox. It is its own species (Chrysocyon brachyurus), although it resembles a fox on stilts.

It is a species from east Asia, that in the 50’s was brought to western part of Russia for the fur, and after that has spread. It is considered an ‘invading’ species in Denmark, can spread Rabies and a tapeworm (Echinococcus multiloculus) that can be lethal for humans and spread to other animals too. A good swimmer, so can move to places that foxes can’t.
So there is made great effort to eliminate them. One way is to make the males sterile and let them out again.

The genus has only two extant species, one from China, and the other from Japan. The fur is not high quality. This was one of those ideas that sounded better on the page than in the project. As to the sterility deal, it is guaranteed to fail. Its been tried with a number of critters, but the only successes seem to come from the insect world or lower, to wit: the screwworm fly.
