Darling, from one who knew a lot of them later on....they were not. The Average soldier on the Beach on D-Day was about 18 and 3/4. My old man was Ancient, at 26. They were babies. Some had more experience than others, but they were all way too young. My home, as a kid, was full of those boys, and I was the little pitcher with the big ears.
