Is a VPN enough

Like the titles states, to stay hidden I use a VPN and then use duck duck go as my browser to access this site. I also have Tor browser but I rarely use it as it takes time to load and sometimes that crashes too.

Am I doing it right or is there an alternative way to do things. I've already been caught by authorities once and would rather it not happen again since I got off lightly the first time.

Anyone who know about these things, please say something as we are in his together ?

Use a PAID VPN from a reputable company. Mine is AVG. DON'T associate your Google, etc email address with the site or your hobby.
Use Proton instead as suggested by the site. But a good VPN won't keep you out of trouble if you do or say other things that can identify you. Be careful with your private images and don't say things which might indicate your local location.

Interesting! Mine puts me in their optimum location for internet speed, but gives me a lot of other choices around the world.
Right now, it has me about 2,500 miles from where I live.

Were you caught because of zoo? Is there anything you can share about the experience that could help others prevent that?
I use TOR. The disadvantage is that although the contents of your connection can not be seen, tor traffic is easily recognizable and makes you suspicious. If you had problems with zoo you may be more suspicious by using tor than by using other vpns.

Please review the VPN you use and make sure that nothing is saved on their servers. Many VPNs will still save a log with your browsing data. Personally, I use Nord VPN. I've heard nothing but good things about them thus far. If you want to be extra hidden, you could use a VPN plus TOR, but I usually only use a VPN myself, and opera as my browser.

Yes which you access via a.....browser...Thats not the issue really. Hes probably using some of googles bloated load or safari. Either way if he's looking for more security Firefox focus is free. Chrome is trash..

I've been curious about a VPN for awhile, funny I see this post after I was just reading about them again. Got the slap from my provider torrenting before that said to stop. This makes me look at VPNs again, but they are all so confusing. One site reviews X, Y, and Z as the their favorites, the next A, B, and C. NordVPN always comes up good, but the only discounts they offer is buying a three year plan up front, otherwise it seems a bit costly.

I do use the VPN option in Opera, which I've read isn't a real VPN, but it's a start. Just got the email from ProtonMail, something I've only learned about and used because of this site, but now wondering if I should transfer all my "interest" related messages to it instead of the Yahoo mail I've used for 10+ years. Also thinking of maybe trying it for standard emails too as I learn more that they are legit versus something I thought I just needed for this site. But now saw Proton has a VPN and looked it up and initial reviews I'm seeing say it's good, even the free service they offer, which I was thinking of trying. Said it was a bit costly as you go up in tiers and not as many servers as others and that the speed was slow in the US though, but they seemed to offer a lot in online protection that you can even monitor. So again, this makes me wonder if it's the option.

My router, an eero now, has a VPN you can purchase there, but the reviews on that say it sucks, it doesn't support torrents and there is no other way to put on on at the router level for the entire house like some other routers offer. I want a VPN that does it all, whatever "all" really is, but at the same time won't slow me down to dial up speeds.

BTW, I've toyed with Tor browser in the past, and it brought everything to a standstill. Went back to Opera with it's VPN setting.

Definitely. I actually even disabled e-mails from this forum completely even though I used a new protonmail account to register here.

Interesting how the OP claims to be from both London and Birmingham within 2 minutes of each post.

You'd have to be really stupid to get caught possessing any content. Either law enforcement going through your computer, in other words you're already engaging in crimes or suspected of other criminal activity, or you leave your illegal porn lying around and let someone else access your PC.

Use a VPN. Don't do anything (else) illegal which would mean police get a search warrant and seize your computer. Don't let anyone else access your PC, ever. Don't leave your porn around on your desktop where someone could see it. Password protect your PC. If you want to be even more secure you can then encrypt the contents of the drive (better) or folder (better than nothing). Even in jurisdictions where you can be jailed for refusing to give the key, that's probably better.

But if someone has been caught, to then start going and making chat groups instead of counting their breaks for getting off lightly, is stupid.

Unless things have changed from years ago, it's not illegal to have porn, but it's illegal to "get" porn or distribute it. The illegal type of porn anyway. I remember way back in college this topic came up in a legal class I was in and the definition of illegal was being discussed. At that time "I know porn when I see it" was basically the definition, so it was open to interpretation. But we were told the end user can have videos, they just couldn't get caught buying or selling them. That was before the internet though in the VHS days.

I have some videos on my personal system, and have thought of making them remote. One, so I can access them anywhere on any machine, two, to make room on my HD for stuff I actually need more than their quick fix, three, just to not raise eyebrows if someone finds it like my ex when we first started dating (who liked them). A cloud server comes to mind, but not Google, or OneDrive, but a personal one. I noticed my when I started using OneDrive and linked my documents folder, some files were flagged that they weren't allowed. It was to the game Second Life and one of their files for an X rated zone I once visited. Haven't been on that game for maybe eight years, but kept the user files should I log back in ever and still have my old character info (actually how I started using my profile name, it's the name the game gave me at the time). So Microsoft does monitor what you put in the cloud on their servers. Haven't seen that with Google, Dropbox or others, but don't use them for more than sending work files usually.

But a personal cloud on a machine I could encrypt with just my "questionable" fun files I wouldn't mind learning to make and have. Granted it would be a machine with these videos on it, but just one machines versus a little here, a little there, etc. A mysterious electronics fire could cure that computer. lol

Tor is fullllll of holes
Any more specific information?
Commercial vpns are not much better. There have been leaks and there have been providers who sell the information. Plus identifying someone who gave you payment details is trivially easy. Plus I have not read it, but I am sure the user agreement of these vpn providers contains the fact that they will disclose your information to the authorities if the law requires it.
