She and her husband were able to get the dog off of her, but from the deep but healed scars on her arm, it was truly the stuff of nightmares. Something I hope to never have to experience.

When I was much younger I had a dog that lost his mind. He never attacked me, or any human, yet despite how close we'd been I was genuinely afraid of him in the end. I was too young to fight effectively; if he had attacked, there would have been nothing I could do to defend myself. So I was banished from the yard for weeks until the end came, and my first ever friend died not knowing friend from foe.

Well, that was a fun story. I could be an award-winning children's writer with plots like that.
