That is definitely not an accurate way to assess a dog's erect length. Most dogs have a long enough sheath to accommodate a full erection, with no more than a quarter inch of their head protroduing. Some have enough prepuce to completely house a full erection. The only way to know for sure is to fully unsheath them and measure.

The average large breed dog (70+lbs) is more endowed in length and girth of the shaft than the average human man.

Length should be from the tip of the shaft to the base of the knot and not including the tether behind the knot.
