I get what you're saying, and for the most part, I agree but........True. But I still feel sad for her.
I’m okay with punishment, but it’s the public shaming I have an issue with, but that’s life these days. You have to make sure you are okay with anything and everything you happens when you post shit in public
The public part of it is just as important to the whole concept. Peer pressure is a solid societal anchor. And part of the problem we currently have with taking responsibility for your own actions is that there is a very distinct difference between your neighbors knowing being a shame to you and people going all out over the top in humiliating people. But, in typical human over-reaction ALL shame somehow got lumped in with the over the top shit. What was once a guardrail to peoples behavior is now off limits to criticism because we're all just being mean. That has a consequence too. For everyone. And it's not positive in any way.
The consequence of that is that instead of taking responsibility for actions and behaviors of ALL kinds, everyone now just gets a pass for any and all bad/stupid decisions they make because "it's not their fault". Sooner rather than later, that will spin off out of control, and we're seeing the results of the start of that now in every facet of life.
She can own it and ignore peoples opinions, or she can move and dive into a deep hole out of public sight and stay there. That's an appropriate consequence for her actions. She should NOT be lynched for what she did. No matter how stupid it was. But, unfortunately, the other half of the equation is that people who would lynch her ALSO have no societal guardrails holding them in line. It's a 2 way street.
