i admit my perspective is probably different since i didn't really start getting into music until the 80s, but for me, duke was where they started getting interesting. as much as i like peter gabriel's solo stuff, i didn't care for early genesis. music really is timeless .. i have a friend younger than me who loves "a trick of the tail" and "wind & wuthering" quite a bit, but for me .. "duke", "abacab" and "genesis" were their great albums, and although too poppy, "invisible touch" had some stuff i really liked ("domino part I" and "the brazilian").
