Nordic dogs actually do that with lots of things. Wolves as well. They boop cautious to detect as example jumping / attacking animals, while being prepared to evade this. Same goes for the circling before laying down: genetic trait to protect them self before hidden snakes and other hard to see animals in some of the resting places.

But in relation to other pets or humans it's comically cute. :ROFLMAO:

S&S is the "real" version of a youtube series 2 characters from 9to9 make. 9to9 is a continuation of College Catastophes, Jan's first comic that he made while studying CS at Purdue. CC is while Jan and Wolf were college roommates, 9to9 picks up in their post college life.
