Somebody actually did that up for halloween the year I spent in Georgia - Used some super-sweet version of Vidalia onions, and dunked 'em in caramel. They were literally so sweet it honestly was a lot like eating an onion-flavored apple, once you gnawed the caramel off 'em. (I'm a sucker for caramel - Always have had a weak spot for Slo-Pokes or Milk Duds, too)
