Apart from anything else, there is absolutely no validity to the absolutism behind the statement that having sex with your dog is cheating on your human. Is it cheating to masturbate? No. Is it cheating to masturbate with a sex toy? No. Is it cheating to have sex with another human? Yes. So what is the difference, and which of those differences apply when having sex with an animal?
There are many differences between having sex with a human vs having sex with an animal vs having sex with an object or masturbating. Write them down in a list if it helps you think things through. Those differences are very significant when we talk about cheating. For me, very few of the things that make it problematic to cheat with another human are applicable to extra marital sex with an animal. If my woman fucked an animal I would not feel in any way threatened. If she did so with another human that would be complicated for me to say the least.
The one 100% reliable reason to resent our partner having sex with an animal (assuming we don't just find it gross) is also a bad reason: it is because we want to control their sexuality as if it they are our property, which is also why we would also stop them masturbating or having a sex toy.

With all due respect, I love my dogs to death but they are not people. They lack the mental capacity to think about repercussions or morality of actions like humans do. You cannot discus topics with them.
I'm also certain you know that he did not mean they count as toys, but also that they do not count as people in the sense of cheating, for him, and that is a totally valid point of view. Whether or not you agree is up to you, but don't try to invalidate his opinion by twisting his words.

I used the word "kinda", and purposely did not use "totally" for a reason.

you litterally just spoke about black and white thinking and then immediatly and dogmatically claim that xxx with a dog is not cheating because dogs are not human, in my mind it is, dogs most certainly have their own wills, characters, agency even. I don't disagree with Allyfitz - ideally, a healthy marriage means creating a relationship that can and should be capable of supporting the entirety of both parties, without reservation. Hope it has gotten better. My word of advice is earn his trust back. I don’t think getting caught is the best way to introduce. A convo would have done better. He is doubting you because you kept a secret from him. Understand that he is experiencing trauma betrayal. Work through it together. Be 1000% honest and transparent with him. It may fix it.

the risk of getting was there when you let the dog out…..you should have used common sense and nothing short of not doing it.
