And keeping your ears and eyes open during spring, there is a high possibility you get to raise another orphaned fawn. Moma deers do die.
I have been but each time I think I have momma shows up and I won't take one from it's mom. Saw one running down the road not long ago and stopped to see if it was alone or not, lost sight of it in the woods so I'd assume right on mom's trail.

Pretty easy to see if it is an orphan or not. Just like in humans they have that "lost" look about them. But you are very correct, don't snatch one from mommy.
