How do you start off smoothly? It lurches forward and I have trouble not stalling if I don't do it more aggressively. It also shakes when I downshift but up shifting is smooth. I just bought my first running manual 2 weeks ago, but i've only driven it once.

Depends on the car. My car can be started without putting the key in the ignition, so it's pushing the brake pedal, twisting the ''key'' thing and then turn till the engine starts.

I prefer to insert key, but I get that some cars won't do that. Treat them right and take them for regular maintenance just the same, and they will take you everywhere you need to go.
