Getting My Own Dog

prepare some questions for the owner too. medical history, where they got the boy that sort of thing.

when i adopted my late boy, the original owner didn't tell me he had undergone a surgery due to cryptorchidism (retained testicle) at first. i did ask much later. dunno if the surgery was botched or something, but he did have a few problems around that area every now and then. minor infections.

good luck on your journey together!

I would also ask for a list of temperament issues/triggers as well.

It's also important to know if hes ever been around other dogs, children, or any small animals.

I might be getting a German Shepherd. I am meeting him tomorrow. He's 4 years old. It will be my first time owning a dog, and I am excited and nervous all at once. I'm not sure what questions the owner might have for me.
Just make sure to treat them right, if you're unaware of the responsibilities of owning a pet definitely look into that. I hope you and them have a wonderful and happy life together!

Take him for a walk and see how he behaves around other dogs, people and obedience towards yourself. Usually when I talk to people about adopting a dog they want to know if the dog will be indoors, how often I am home and why I want a dog. One owner even wanted to see my house first. For me I wanted to see if the dog barked or had aggressive or conversely cowering tendencies towards other people. One dog I adopted would bark aggressively and fight with other dogs. You need to get these behavioral things sorted out first.
