That's sad, because I've maybe watched 1 or 2 DBZ episodes with a friend and even I got the reference. Although it did blow up into a popular meme years back.i made an over 9000 meme about the post count last night and nobody got it.

IIRC it was a mistranslation and from the original Japanese version it was supposed to be over "8,000" that's of course if my doggy memory serves me correctly! Lol

it was originally 8000, but that was not a mistranslation. it was changed to 9000 deliberately because the localizers thought the word 9 fit the mouth motions better than 8
