Nice thing about mares, they come in heat once a month other than during the winter and no waiting after they've been in heat if the are open to sex out of heat.
Downside is they just aren't as easy to cuddle with at night

After a heat cycle is finished with a female canine it's best not to have sex with her for 2-4 weeks. This is because once the heat cycle ends the uterine wall closes. During this process it's best not to allow foreign material (such as human cum) to be trapped while the uterine wall is closing. Having sex just after a heat cycle can increase the odds of your canine getting a nasty infection.
