You likely have an unread reply from a little while back. Most people call it "ghost notifications." It could be as far back as several days, where a reply was never click on nor marked as read. You can either search through your notification to figure out which one it was that was unread or you can select "mark read" and it will resolve it. I typically use the ZV pride theme which gets rid of this.... bug? feature? I don't know what you'd call it?
