there are several swords i would like to have, but i meet a similar problem. they are only really handcrafted by private producers these days, and arent the most available hobby product out there
having the real deal is very nice, the problem comes when you want a type of sword that has not been in production for so long that no viable instances survive. like say, the roman gladius, or the falchion which was last made in the 1500s
I wouldn't mind a Gladius sword either. Those are pretty easy to find. Hooked or "question mark" shaped scimitars have to be custom ordered and hand made. They can easily set you back $500 or more for a very basic one. You can normally find a Gladius ready to go for around $200-$300. But if I'm going for the real deal, I might as well pay extra and get my favorite one, which is the hooked Scimitar. It's basically Rome's take on the Scimitars pirates used.
A 2000 year old gladius might be a little on the pricey side but a falchion can be had easily enough for a few thousand dollars, not bad for a 500+ year old sword in my opinion.
Ah! I found a sword closer to what I would want to purchase. I looks like the style of sword I'm looking for more closely matches an Egyptian Khopesh sword.
