29797 Boof

You know, for the longest time, I assumed "boof" was something when it was actually something else. I picked up "boof" from a web comic, and for years I assumed that "boof" was just the really deep, booming bark of an extremely large dog. What I found out months ago was that "boof" was actually the lazy, partial bark that dogs do when they're trying to vocalize but not bark.

29802 In my case, I say BOOF! as a means to express a booming bark from a big dog. It also comes from this meme...

Canine onomatopoeia is completely borked. Basically every culture in the world as a different idea of what a dog says (and most of them are wrong).

On the other hand, almost everybody agrees that cats say some variation of "meow".

Having grown up with cats, I don't think I've ever heard a cat be able to produce a stereotypical "meow" especially considering that they don't have the lips to produce the "mmm" sound. Normally it comes out closer to "Aoww."
Turns out everybody was wrong about them as well but it is peculiar that they're all wrong in the same way. I personally thought it was more like a "roww" or "woww" sound.
