Can you block member’s replies/is there an ignore button?

On half of the general discussion threads I open, I always see someone (usually not new people, surprising) just being rude. Can I block these members somehow, so I don’t see their replies? I see there’s an ignore feature, but it sounds like that doesn’t have the intended effect.

I know the ignore feature makes it so they cant follow you and PM you but I don't think it just zaps all their forum posts out of your view.
Best I can think of is just ignore what you don't wanna see.

Yes there is an Ignore button on each user's profile which hides their posts as well.
Create your own echo chamber today! Become unable to defend yourself while only seeing what you want with an occasional teaser! :D

I don’t care about the posts, it’s the replies that I want to know if it hides as well. When I tried it, it didn’t, but maybe something funky happened.

Also, just cause I wanna hide a few grumpy comments doesn’t mean I want an echo chamber.

Not everything is hidden. Quoted text I think is not hidden because it is not a part of the user's post.
I have literally never ignored anyone, so my knowledge of how this behaves is limited.
Experiment and you will see.

Nah, it blocks quotes too. They show up a "you're ignoring this person yahdah yahdah".

Ah look, here's an ideal person to ignore.

And yeah seriously this board has got MAJOR troll and negativity problems. Look we get it, fucking animals isn't exactly socially normal, but that still doesn't excuse the constant negativity and just shitting on ppl that I see going on here constantly. It's gross, you're gross, be a better person.

I think some of the folks here lack the bedside manner for humans so animals was the easier choice.

or option 2: how about you don't blow up a fucking joke with "blabla you are all gross trolls :(((" and just take it?
was it a dumb joke? yes, it very much was. who cares?

I've found the opposite to be true. Generally speaking, this place has far less negative behavior than other places because the mods are vigilant in enforcing the rules. But if you're the type to immediately interpret pes' echo chamber comment as an unforgivable attack that needs ignoring, no doubt you see negative behavior everywhere. (I honestly thought you were just joking about ignoring him, didn't realize at first that somebody could be serious about that)

At any rate, I use ignore to hide all the folks with Dick Pics as their profile photos. That's not something I want to see. Check out my ignore list if you're into male porn, it's a sea of dicks.

Considering this thread went to hell as soon as I left, I feel like I’m definitely gonna need it :/

i used ignore and still got a pm. so there's no way to actually keep people from contacting you, it seems

The "Ignore" feature does work and it will remove all post from the ignored user. It will be as if the ignored user never posted anything; all post will disappear from your view and any quoted post from that ignored user will show this:

As was stated, head over to the user's page and click the "Ignore" button wherein it will turn into "Unignore" at which point all you have to do is refresh the site and you're good to go.

I personally do not do this because I want to see all opinions (good and bad) because the only way to broaden your perspectives is to be able to look at the entire picture and consider all the arguments even if they don't agree with you or are just simply way out in left field somewhere.

Most people nowadays have very short time span attention so I'm guessing most posts are ignored by default, especially the long ones because we're mostly people of the TLDR-type.

contact A mod if u feel you are being harassed or bullied! I guess that would be through a report….. The only exception is the dumpster fire of which I think is wrong but I don’t make the rules! Anything goes in that forum…..

does the person u r ignoring realize they are being ignored On their end.

@FloofyNewfie Adding your explanation here. Maybe it should also be added somewhere more visible.
It leads me to a question though, what if you do both the ignore buttons but then want to take it all back?

There are two separate Ignore buttons:
1. On the user profile page
2. When leaving a PM conversation.

Clicking Leave and Ignore Future PMs (leaving a conversation) alone will still allow the other user to send you a new separate PM.
Clicking Leave and Ignore Future PMs and then clicking Ignore on their profile itself stops all PMs from showing up. Even when unignored the second PM didn't show up.

So as long as you leave the conversation, ignore future PMs, and then ignore the user from their profile you will not get future PMs, and the person sending the PM will have no indication that they've been blocked.

If you just ignore them, the PM will still show up, but when you click on it you'll get the generic "Show hidden content..." button. And if you select leave but select allow future PMs. If the user replies to the same PM thread it'll show up as a new message, but will be hidden by default.

So the only way to block all future PMs is to leave, don't allow future PMs, and then ignore the person's profile.

(This is how the forum works, this is not programmed by mods, so please do not complain that this is convoluted.)
