So I have a feeling I may be in the minority here, but hear me out. My girl already has a sex drive that is pretty similar to mine, maybe she likes it a bit more often, so when she's not in heat things are pretty much perfect for me sex-wise. When she starts to go into heat, she first goes through a period where she doesn't want to be touched at all. This is probably the worst part, 'cause it means blue balls for me. When she finally starts to get horny, she gets REALLY horny! It's nice, but it's too much. I know she wants more than I'm giving, and it makes me feel guilty.
There's also the physical side of things. We always do oral before getting to any penetration; it's something she both expects and demands. But when she's in heat, she will of course be leaking bloody dog fluids... and it's kinda gross to go down on her like that. I really prefer her normal taste. But heat or no heat she is a creature of habit, and she will not allow me to proceed without first providing the proper foreplay, so if I want any it's something I'm going to have to do.
Any other guys out there actually prefer it when their girl is not in heat?
 
So I'm the same way, while my family's fluffy mutt girl was still alive, she liked being locked inside and outside of heat. I preferred the taste of her out of heat because her cookie tasted similar to a 9 volt battery, without the buzz. I'll be sure to comment back here once I get a dog of my own.
 
yes, i also made this same thread about it already. for me it's about sex out of heat being about her feeling horny, not her hormones forcing her to be. if that makes any sense.

I've never really considered it as her hormones forcing her to be horny, but I can see what you both mean that it's different when she's only wanting sex to scratch that itch. Twelvepaws you're right about the swelling making things a bit tight, it's noticeable despite my girl being a St Bernard. I'm honestly surprised to find other guys who feel the same way! Based on the reactions to swollen cookies in the porn section you'd think human males are driven just as nuts by heat as canine males. Possibly they do not have personal experience with it?
 
I certainly have seen some terrible things and people there, but I've also seen wonderful things. HuskyLust is a prime example of a man who clearly treats his girl right, and she in return both loves him and loves to be intimate with him.
