Just a rant and I'm curious.

Im starting to think zoos should push to be labeled zoosexual rather than zoophile. I think it will help us to be understood and accepted when and if the time comes. It sounds better, more modern and relates better to other sexualities. Why is zoophile the most commonly used term for us? How many people prefer one over the other, and why?

So first thing should be first. What do YOU see as different in the definitions of the 2?

I vote for zoophile because we have had the required terms defined since 1994.
There are the “bestialists” who have one or a few sexual contacts with an animal, or they use animals when a more “normal” outlet is not available. (This is your typical zoovillian fetishist looking for a woman to stalk and your dog to fuck quickly)
The second class of people are the zoophiles.” These are the people who prefer an animal as a sex partner, often forming deep emotional relationships with it (Matthews, 1994). (This is the 0.1% of actual zoophiles on zooville). :D

Relabeling something is not really going to help much in my opinion.

I generally don't think the name is the issue, I think of it like Murder, No matter how you slice it, It's murder. In this case, It would be No matter how you knot it, it's still Zoophilia, Bestality or however you want to spell it, Though I am all for changing Bestality to Animality <,< (High-five if you get that reference)

Goes along with babality

The "usual" diference is,
- Zoophile as someone who loves animals, not necessarily in a sexual way.
- Zoosexual as someone who's main sexual dtiveus geared toward animals. With or without a romantic part to it.
- Bestialist as someone who enjoys sex with animals and only that.

Your millage may vary

Good points pes. I agree. I'm glad I started this poll and got some discussion going. You make me want to revote.

I can not decide. I have a deep emotional relationship with dogs. Not with people, I'm exclusive. I am in love, a sentient being, I am also with my dogs in spirit. And I also consider sex very important, the highest point of physical connection and closeness. And it is also important for the spiritual relationship. Body and soul are together.

i label myself "zoosexual". maybe wrongly, i just like that it sounds same-ish as "hetero/homo/bi/pan/whateverelsesexual" ie: a "proper" sexual orientation, solely because this "curse" feels the same way i believe all the other sexualities feel. i was always interested in dogs and it simply took the turn towards sexual when i hit puberty, similarly how an average heterosexual finds out the opposite sex or some of their features makes them lustful once they hit their puberty.

i'm also not a fan of the term "zoophilia" itself... anythingphilia feels like there's something wrong with me (also makes the nonsensical pedophilia parallel "we" run into frequently seem plausible i think). i mean, there likely is something wrong (considering the point of my sexuality isn't procreation), but generally speaking there's nothing wrong with me, i'm just an average joe whose attractions led him outside his own species.

the only reason i call this a "curse" is thanks to society and how dogs (well, animals in general) are viewed. ppl like me simply can't and likely never will be able to to just ask someone's animal out.. which leads to lots of needless heartache. my literal first crush was a dog of someone else.. not to mention way too many times i "clicked" with other dogs only to never see them ever again. little meet and greets at the vet or "oh, he/she normally never lets anyone touch him/her" encounters with strangers walking their dogs. makes me envious of "normal" sexualities. just imagine meeting someone (like a girl/guy at the bar) and sparks fly, but you know it can't lead anywhere. all you can do is maybe ask what their name is... feels like torture at times.

I agree and can definitely relate. Thanks for the reply.
