Hey,

Peter Singer has made is come back on the topic zoophilia :
Peter Signer on "X" (Twitter), 9 november 2023 : https://twitter.com/PeterSinger/status/1722440246972018857

"Another thought-provoking article is "Zoophilia Is Morally Permissible" by Fira Bensto (pseudonym), which is just out in the current issue of @JConIdeas.

This piece challenges one of society's strongest taboos and argues for the moral permissibility of some forms of sexual contact between humans and animals. This article offers a controversial perspective that calls for a serious and open discussion on animal ethics and sex ethics."

What are you thoughts on this?

I mean, of course. It was more about Singer dealing again with zoophilia 20 years later, and twitter going crazy about it. He's at 4,3M views in one day. I mean, that doesn't happen every day.

I think is important to further and actually give lots of thought to this subject, specially that right now a huge storm might be brewing due the masses being exposed to such content via viral trends and shock videos. A huge gut reaction from the masses might push lawmakers to make even more stringent punishments for cases that shouldn't really be deserving of it.

The atmosphere, I don't know, everytime I see there's debate on zoophilia I feel it super dense, I prefer to keep it in the shadows if that makes sense.

I understand. Especially since debates in Twitter tend to be... very emotional to say the least.

I don't believe that. Especially since that content is stemming from academics. Now the trend to aggravate laws against zoosex is already ongoing, it has been for 20 years. This is the type of content that can save us from it. It needs to start from the academia before it'll slowly reach other layors of society.

Yes that's exactly what Im saying, there should be discourse, research and an actual logical approach to it, I don't talk about the general public getting exposed to this research, that could be positive. I talk about the public being exposed to images and videos of bestiality acts in social media as of recent happenings, most people have a gut reaction and that kind of stuff reaches law makers much faster than research. So I support this kind of academic approach.

Singer has caused a stir with several remarks, and that already started with his Animal Liberation from the 1970s. I appreciate what Fira Bensto is trying to do here. However, I wonder whether mainstream academia and society will take note of a Journal of Controversial Ideas.
