In my mind, it's kind of a old-school idea of relationships/marriage. Essentially, if I have a dog that I can't be intimate with but I still care deeply for (such as my rescue), she's my girlfriend. I still dote on her very much, but we'll never "know" one another, as it were. Now my love that passed away many years ago, I felt she was my wife. It was a very similar romantic love, but there was just that extra layer of deep bonding that you can only get when you are trying to make puppies.

No I do not. She's my lover, my companion, my friend and most importantly my dog.
I do not like humanizing them.
 
I wish for such a bond. To call her my mate and love her everyday. To mark her with my scent and claim her as mine. I know she will bring me much joy whoever she may be.

It's hard for me to date humans. I just see so many flaws which ruin the mood and require distance. But a canine mate of either sex I believe can teach me how to be happier so it is my current goal to support one.
