So as the title suggests, im worried about keeping it on my phone. I use a VPN as well as a "Secure folder" so people don't accidentally stumble upon it but it's more about hacks I guess? Is it a necessary worry or is it being too paranoid?

A VPN isn't going to do anything as far as keeping people from finding it on your phone. All a VPN does is encrypt your traffic so as to keep your activities online private. So it'll cover your ass as far as GETTING the pics and vids onto your phone, but once they're there, it does nothing for you.

A VPN is actually going to do very little once they receive a request for your data which they do log because they are not going to take a hit for you.
All a VPN does is exactly what your ISP does with the exception that your ISP does not have to lie that they do not keep logs.
VPNs are useful to access content not accessible in your country. But they are not a good privacy tool.

Idk if it helps, but I use a Burner Phone. I saved up and bought a straight talk phone, I had minutes on it for a month. I didn't use it for personal calls or messaging. I also do not put my personal Social Media information on it, all my Zoo activity is linked to a Fake Persona. I can use it to chat and build friendships with people online through this phone. If ever I happen to feel that my Fake Persona is in jeopardy, I can just destroy this phone.

I also don't keep info (Like Passwords and Usernames, this way I am not dumb enough to reuse old profiles or accounts that might get linked back to me.) on anything else that I own. I have email accounts with email sites that I believe to be useful in these endeavors, all this on top of using a VPN that is separate from the one I have at home. Plus, using Tor helps too and as long as keep my identity as anonymous as possible with my Burner Phone. I feel safe enough to take things slowly with online friends.

I also have to admit that I do not look at or download Zoo Porn anymore... nothing serious, I just don't feel the urge to watch other people have sex with animals, especially when I can do it myself with my K9 husband. So I don't know what it is like to do so in this day and age of both the internet and software technology. But believe me, I used watch Zoo Porn like crazy when I was younger. Just kind of phased out as I got older.

I would recommend against keeping anything incriminatiing on a cellphone that's tied to your information.
Between various automated backup services and lack of legal protections in regard to privacy, seems like a risk not worth taking.

If you are living in a country where zoo can land you in jail, just don't keep any porn on your phone, or move to a country where it's fine to have it on your phone.
