Why her in particular?

I remember a party at a friend's house a few months ago.
We were 7 or 8 people, men and women.
We had a drink while chatting.
Then another friend arrived with his unneutered male dog, an all-white American Staff.
We have always seen this dog to be calm and kind.
The dog lay down on the living room rug.

But after 10 minutes he got up, he went to one of the women who was sitting on the sofa. He stood up and put his paws on her. On his legs, then he tried to grab his waist with his paws.
His master calmed him down and sent him back to a corner of the living room.
But he came back to the same woman. More and more nervous.
He tried to take her again by the legs and the waist but, in addition, by giving movements of the kidneys and we began to see her little pink end.
We were all embarrassed at first, even if we laughed kindly.
The friend he was trying to get up to was even more embarrassed than us of course.
His master had to send him back a dozen times, getting angry, to a corner of the living room before he calmed down.

I was very intrigued that night and I still am today.

Why did this dog try to mount this friend only, especially her? He never did this with other women in our friend group.
Did he smell or feel anything in particular? His smell ? His attitude ? Her personality ?

Maybe people with more experience can answer me ? :)

Does this woman have her own dog or any other animal?
Was she previously playing with the dog more than anyone else?
Did she give any treats to the dog so he would remember her more than anybody else?
Was she previously in contact with any other dog or a female dog that he could smell on her?

No, this woman did not have a dog or any other animal.

Was she previously playing with the dog more than anyone else?

No she has never played with this dog before. She had never met him. She had only met the dog's owner once or twice.

Did she give any treats to the dog so he would remember her more than anybody else?

No, she didn't give the dog any treats. She had no contact with him during the evening. she was just sitting on the couch having a drink and chatting with us.

No, before the party she was just at home all day. I specify that this friend had been single for a long time. Maybe it can help to understand this situation.

:)

Dogs are usually nose oriented animals so he could have smelled something on her that was interesting.
Humping does not always mean sexual interest either it is also a display of dominance and can be a sign of stress or anxiety or other things it is always the context that matters.
In this case I do not think we will be able to determine the cause. What you will get is a few comments telling you how dogs are surely naturally attracted to women and a bunch of other guesswork and dreamed up nonsense.

If that dog has never had sex with a human it is also highly unlikely that he would be trying to do that or ask for sex as that option has never been available to him.

Yes it's true, there are so many factors that come into play. It's always intriguing to see, in a group of people, a dog "choosing" and trying to take the leg of a particular person.
My necessarily misdirected mind immediately made me think that: the dog felt that this friend was troubled by his presence. Despite herself, she felt attracted to him.
Maybe her pheromones or her attitude expressed it. So the dog went to her because he felt what she showed him.

But as you say, maybe he just felt her stress (maybe she was never comfortable with dogs) so he takes the opportunity to assert his dominance over her.
