I suspect it's Ye Olde Basic Empowerment Issues. Feel marginalized? Jump on someone else. There's nothing like being able to look down your nose at someone else when you're normally NOT in a position to do so.
Likewise, someone feels disenfranchised for WHATEVER reason, they come online and establish themselves within a new hierarchy and a (relatively) new social construct. There's little-to-no punishment for (most) antisocial behaviors, and same-thinking individuals can fit in as they decide how they want to participate, and what role they want to play, forming echo chambers of sorts. To have such a presence in such a marginalized community (of a somewhat admittedly awkward band of misfits), this seems to be a self-defeating and toxic misstep.
Witness, this thread itself may end up migrated (relegated?) to the Dumpster Fire, where it likely will receive the eponymous treatment with a related influx of trollery. Of all decisions on the board and moderation thereof, this is the most confusing one to me. How a seemingly innocent and relatively innocent (or even challenging) discussion thread can be pitched into the dumpster, whereupon it gets beset by some of the most base treatment our community dishes out. This doesn't make the board a safe haven with a sacrificial anode for baser interaction, that just protects those who would choose to add toxicity and divisiveness, tearing down - rather than building - a community.
