Several ancient historical and myths call it "the drink of the gods". Was famously appraised in ancient Aztek and Sumerian traditions. Vastly replaced coco as the wealthy drink of choice.

Personally I think coffee is highly overated both historically and in American culture. I prefer tea, and I think the Brits have the right idea over us Americans.

Coffee is an Old-World crop from Ethiopia, the Aztecs wouldn't have been able to drink it until after they'd been conquered by Spain. They did drink hot chocolate, though.
