That's what I kind of fear - getting a puppy that my partner and I grow to love, only for him to grow a little too large for my partner to accommodate. I'm sure it's still great fun, but man that must be frustrating.
 
I agree with most of the comments above. I only play with BIG/HUGE intact male dogs so I have some experience here. The HUGE breeds , Gt Dane, St Bernards, Mastiffs tend to be the biggest. However GSDs, Dobermans, Boxers and Labs can reach 8 plus knot. Before you ask biggest ever have been 10 plus knot from the huge breeds mentioned. Have fun.

you can control knotting by using the mish position. this allows you to control depth and likelihood of knotting.

They're not, on average. I will definitely attest that Boerboels, Kangals, Alabais, and Great Danes average larger in overall volume. Bloodhounds are similarly hung to the average Mastiff.
