What VPN do you use?

Hello all,
My current VPN is kinda crap and I'm looking at new ones because my subscription is almost up. Which ones do you use or which ones have you heard bad things about?

Try Proton VP

Alternatively the likes of Bitdefender etc. also offer VPN.

Just make to set up to disconnected browsing automatically if the vpn drops.

Is proton VP by the same people that do the proton mail?
Currently I'm using the VPN that comes with the password manager I use and it has a lot to be desired

Yes it is. I don't use it but my team has tested it and it's more reliable than TOR.

I use private internet access, can't say I have any complaints. When looking for a new VPN consider the countries in which it has servers (hint: connect to the server of countries where zoo is legal!) and also make sure the provider doesn't keep logs

none, just tor and there was a fairly long time i didn't use even that. nothing ever happened in the past 15 years, but i can't be sure if i'm not on some list somewhere already.... then again anti-zoo sting operations don't seem to be a thing here in czech republic or czechia or whatever we call ourselves nowadays

PIA, and I pay for it using a prepaid visa card, but I almost never use it for browsing just for torrenting.

I'm currently using Tor on Tails with disabled IPv6. But as I'm considering getting a VPN access anyways, I'm thinking about running Tor over Mullvad.

Unfortunately, PIA has been bought by an advertisement company. While this doesn't mean anything per se, I'd be wary.

NordVPN.

I've never had any issues with it, and it seems to be safe (PLEASE tell me if Nord sucks for safety) so I've just stuck with it.

I use VPN Unlimited, been using it for years and it's treated me pretty well, but it's a bit light on the features. Very good if you want a VPN and nothing else though.

Is navigating this forum and watching FORBIDDEN_WEBSITE! dangeros? I forgot to turn on my vpn for a few minutes
I am in GER

How do you do that, and also how do you ensure that your connection is going through the VPN in the first place?

Read up on "VPN Killswitch". It's a concept, not a specific software package. Might or might not be doable using your VPN's provided software, if that's what you use, but can be set up for most packages built around the OpenVPN open-source package. (which can NEARLY always be used instead of whatever crap-fest your VPN provider flogs - just a matter of figuring out how to plug your VPN's config files into it)

As far as figuring out if you're going through a VPN, start it up, and point a browser at whatismyip.com, or any of several other similarly named sites. If what it tells you doesn't match what your computer says it thinks your IP address is (VERY frequently, but not always, 192.168.???.???) you are.
Ferinstance, my IP according to my machine is 192.168.0.110, because I'm behind my ISP's in-the-house router. WITHOUT the VPN, whatismyip.com shows me an address in the 175.???.???.??? range, which matches up with my ISP. (192.168.???.??? is the most-used "I'm behind a router" range of addresses, and isn't "switched" - your machine connected to your ISP's router could also be 192.168.0.110, but due to the way things work, that doesn't matter - explaining why is *WAY* above my pay grade and motivation - look up the various internet RFC documents if you really want to know the details) But whatismyip.com is telling me that my "visible to the world" address is currently 205.185.223.26. That number WILL change the next time I disconnect from, and then reconnect to the VPN.

Personally, I use express VPN, been using that for at least a few months now and so far so good, I have it both on my computer, my phone and also my PlayStation 4, I can actually say it works because playing Grand Theft auto, if anybody knows that game, everybody likes to find your user name and figure out how to boot you offline well, needless to say, nobody can do that to me anymore, it seems to be a toss up between express, nord and surfshark
