Warning for Apple users

My current iPhone is my first since 2007 and I switched back solely because of their commitment to privacy. Even though beast porn isn’t illegal so this shouldn’t affect me even if they wanted to look for it I’m still incredibly pissed at Apple. With this news I’ll be ditching them and going back to android.

?. Android all the way ?. New school is old school... ?

Think fast! Is cub play child porn or bestiality?

What if you don’t back up to the cloud? They can’t get in your phone because they said even they can’t get past user passwords. I’m all for nailing child pornography, but this seems like a gigantic betrayal of Apple’s promise of end to end security. Just read the story on some news site…..so it is true.

My company uses some software they put on our corporate phones to monitor and to scrub upon termination. Did Apple sneak something like that in on one of their numerous updates.

I think all companies do something similar, even google's cloud storage does this.

I'm certainly for keeping children safe.
Probably in our future. The gov I think does quite a bit for terrorist and peds internet surveillance. Unfortunately the law seems to associate zoo with peds as some form of stepping stone. Not surprised if some of these key words may cause some surveillance software to pick up on it. Don't know what Apple will get out of it unless the gov is forcing them to do so. I quite sharing or sending images and clips years ago, don;t have any on my cell, and don't use any cloud service. We still have freedom of speech I hope.

What do you mean? They literally made the hardware and the OS, they can access whatever the hell they want to. The only thing stopping them is themselves and trust of the users, which you can see how they treat now.

I was recalling their involvement with law enforcement a few years ago where they asked Apple to unlock a suspect’s iPhone. They said “no”, and went on to say they couldn’t do it even if they wanted to. I guess I was a fool for believing that.

Same here!! I don’t download or store the videos I watch to my phone. Having said that, I’m pretty sure that there’s some metadata hidden away that cleaning cookies and web history doesn’t touch.

Apple has announced that they are going to start scanning for child porn and reporting any they find. Anybody want to guess who's next?
Where on Apple do you find this ? Need facts.
I made a short search, and found nothing from Apple, but a number of other sites. Isn’t it just a “ghost-story” that is going viral ?

I read up on it yesterday on NPR’s website. No fan of NPR but, of all the links, it seemed the most credible.

Just checked an old thread from 2020 where one of the owners confirmed that metadata was stripped from posts to the site.

I see it too. But can’t find anything on Apple.com. It is all comments from other sites.
Some call it a back door, and a step away from Apple’s promise of privacy.

That is true, but it takes 15-20 mins after posting for that to take effect. For that 15-20 mins, your data is wide open.
For that reason, strip your data yourself before posting. That's from mod, Floofy.

Thanks for the update!!

While I don't condone child abuse, Android isn't necessarily better. Because Google is tied into a lot of android systems, know this: Google photos has a similar scanning system, which looks for CSEM whenever photos are uploaded to your (their) cloud. Like apple, it is reported LE. While I haven't heard that being applied to any zoo content, I personally just turn off cloud syncing there, and use a different app for my photos.
