Want a puppy, "Why isn't he neutered?" is the obstacle.

Hey all, I'm a complete novice, and suffer some real world paranoia/anxiety issues, so beg-pardon if I come across as overly worried or cautious.

I want to get a male puppy (I'm male) and raise a companion from day one. Overall I can find my own way with raising and training a puppy myself (or ask), but the later physical relationship details I'm sure to have plenty of questions on. As stated above, I would have one large issue from the start: Owning an unneutered canine, and having an excuse why without raising suspicion. I'm sure a large part of that is my own behavior/mentality, and I have people who help me with that, but just for the up front "hey, you know your boy would be less aggressive and easier to train?", and the related.

I'm private, live alone, have enough back street/local area for exercise/walks, and friends and family who love dogs and animals. I should have all I need, and I know having a companion would do wonders for my life. I look forward to your constructive recommendations and advice.

Thank you all very much.

I really dont think having an unneutered dog would draw suspicions. There are lots of people who do. I guess it all depends on where you live and if they make you pay for a dog license and how much. For some people like me in Ca it’s cheaper to have a neutered dog for dog license. Like I believe in my county its $150/year for intact male dog even more for a female, but neutered it’s like $15-20/year

I have had a few people ask me why my dog is not genitally mutilated. One was my vet (asked once and never again). Others were either trainers or regular people. My answer is always that I could not do that to my dog because I am a male too. Which has been universally accepted.

It would not draw suspicion of him being a lover. But I 'mutilate' mine by docking tails and cropping ears..

These are the same people demanding I go get a vaccine but scream my body my choice when it comes to pregnancy.

My advice is try to not live in fear of these people because they are absolutely miserable and want to drag everyone down to their level.. If they ask why he isn't fixed tell them, his body, his choice. Noone wants to loose their dangly bits!

Yeah these are all details I gotta find out about. I'm sure I will have questions that I need to ask here, again as I would rather "know what I'm doing" and minimize communication about the subject with others. So I will go invest myself in "first time dog/puppy ownership/training", and then ask here about licenses/registration/laws when I encounter the subject.

I did try this once with someone I know personally. In a conversation about "how great owning a dog would be", the concept of "a dog wakes you up in stupid ways"
"My stupid sitcom luck, by sitting his balls on your face, LOL!"
"Why would he have his balls? Wouldn't he be fixed?"
"I don't want my balls removed. Do you want your ovaries removed?"
"Its your dog, its not your son"

sigh

You don't owe anybody an explanation. But if you feel the need to you can just say that you won't consider neutering him until he's 2 years old because of risk to bone and joint health. It's better to delay neutering until they are done growing. There's a lot pf studies showing benefits of delaying it. Then if they ask again after he's two just say that you don't see any reason to because he has no behavioral issues.
