WALK WITH AN OLD DOG

Because you will not be forever
Hope against time though I may
I paint your picture in my memory
Eyes blue with age, muzzle gone gray.

Because you walked with me in the springtime
Puppy clumsy, running free
As we grew, we grew together
You became a part of me.

Because you shared with me my sorrows
Always understanding, always there
Often spurring me to laughter
My friend,you know how much I care.

Because the years have slowed your fleetness
Though your spirit still is strong
I promise I will take more time now
So that you can go along.

Because you do not fear the future
Living only in the now
I draw strength from your example
Yet time keeps slipping by, some how.

Because the day will soon be coming
When I will no longer see
You rise to greet me but in memory
You will always walk with me.​

I fully understand as I too walked the road too many times. My initial explorations of who and what I am began with my canine companions/partners back in my youth. They helped me through my transition to understanding. The first ones were German Shepherds and the last ones were Great Danes. I laid my last canine companion/partner to rest back in 2014. I no longer have the strength or stamina to help an elderly large canine around. My last two lived to be almost 14 and 13 respectively. May you embrace and enjoy many, MANY years with your new girl...
 
That's why i haven't been able to get a new dog yet even though it has been 3 years since i had to say goodbye to my girl... It just hits so hard when you lose your loved one even though you knew it was her time to go as she was pretty old already and started having health issues. ☹️
 
I have put two old girls to the bridge. Both Goldens. I got the in their elderly years. One at 6yo the other at 7.5 years.the 6 yo passed three years later from cancer. She orgasmed that day. The 7.5 yo passed when she was 12 years 7 months. Seizures brought her down. She was intact, the other one was spayed. Once they found out about an orgasm, they kept after me. The 12yo kept flagging me and waiting for me to finger her.

Now they are both at the bridge. I have a 3yo. Follows me around all the time. She is in heat now. Standing heat. Wants me to run her cookie all the time. Wife does not suspect a thing. Wife is anti-zoo.
