Two questions about joining groups

Didn't find any information here about this yet, so I figured I'd ask some stuff before I possibly make a fool of myself:
- Should I join any groups I have an interest in, or should I be extremely selective and only join a few?
- Should I wait until I've been active longer on this site before attempting to join a group?

You can always leave a group you do not like. Other than that it is up to you.

You need to at least have 10 posts to have pm enabled.

Groups (at least those I am in) are generally dead so odds are you are joining something that is not going to change much in your life. So it probably does not matter.
