It's probably the fake chiseled patterning of the letters. Throws off the eyes cause the false shadowing doesn't match the rest of the natural shadows.

Dunno what makes this so hard to believe that it's real. If we take our heads out of the gutter for a second it's really just a play on 2 common phrases. "Diamond's are a girl's best friend" and "Dog is man's best friend." Put those two together and you just got a cheeky advertisement for taking care of your dog.
