The unfortunate truth… (AI + fake users)

So, I’m sitting here cruising around the forum as one does, and a particular selfie of a new user catches my eye - I inspect the photo, then start checking out their other photos… hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we’re being catfished, hard. ?

For context, I started dabbling with A.I. image generation about, idk, a year ago?… it struggled with fine details; things like hands, fingers, hair, eyes, stuff like that. Now, though? You can essentially design a whole ass “person” and then train the AI to make said “person” into an image “prompt.” You teach the AI what this “person” looks like, specifying physical features; height, weight, skin/eye/hair color, breast size, freckles, tattoo’s, jewelry, etc… traits that would normally stay consistent with a REAL person. Then, you roll it all up into one image prompt named, idk, “Theresa.” Once your image prompt is ready to go, you tell the AI you’d like an image of “Theresa,” doing whatever you ask it to… Reading a book by a lake, riding a camel in Dubai while wearing a T-shirt with George Washington’s face, or *taking an innocent selfie in her bedroom, showing cleavage*… feel me?

I can say without a shadow of a doubt, our forum is being flooded with new users+images that are completely A.I. generated. Mods/Staff, we might want to consider stepping up our verification process because this shit is going to get to a point where even people such as myself can’t tell the difference. ?

Anyways, we all know who that person is, you don't have to be a genius to know that, but, does it really matter? I think the point of banning those fake users is because they're using images that belongs to a real person and might ruin their reputation, but with A.I images, does it really matter? There's no real person there. And let's accept it, no matter how much filters you put to those users, in 6 months they'll be able to surpass all of them without any problem. The real thing here is being smart in recognizing those users and avoid them if you want to avoid them, because, surprise, there might be people who won't want to.

The thing is, banning people just because yes, it's a problem. It's scary? Absolutely, I've been scared ever since like 3 years about it, and I've been asking over and over to end these projects, but we're already here, what can we do? As long as they don't ruin other's reputation, I'm not going to say it's not creepy, because it is fucking creepy, but at least they're not "harming" anyone, so basically just don't get scammed, that's the point, you should never ever EVER, give money to anyone you don't know online, if somebody asks you for money, they're scammers, is that simple, and if you do, oh boy I got you news. Plus that people, the majority are just pedophiles, so fuck them.

To be clear, I didnt suggesting banning anyone. Just wanted to share a bit of my personal experience with everyone as a friendly reminder to be cautious. Glad you see it too though.

Unfortunately, I agree, many people will be out of a job because of the rapid advancement of AI. Hardly anyone sees it coming. That’s why I said it’s scary

I guess I’m not smart enough to understand the downside of this. If a person uses AI to generate images resembling a real person, I get why that would be no bueno….but I haven’t seen any evidence of that.

On another note, how can there be “fake users?” When I hear that, I think of Twitter, flooding their numbers with “bots” that make someone seem more popular than they actually are.

This is not a dating site. The personal ads section exists to move thrash that would otherwise be polluting the forum to a convenient place where others do not have to constantly see it.
We are not going to implement any sort of gender or identity verification. We are not zoosbook.
You want this to stop, stop using this forum as a hookup site.

Indeed, use this forum as a dating site at your own peril. Use common sense to filter out the catfishes. Basically, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. If you are determined to try to meet people through this site - either for dating or just to meet up with some local zoos for a chat - all safety precautions apply.

And judging from the multiple gender threads in the DF, gender verification would be a nightmare on its own anyway...

People shouldn't be using their real pictures as their PfPs anyways, especially here.
And almost nobody ever will.
You should not have ever expected anyone to be doing that.

I agree, and I don’t expect anyone to do so. Look, I don’t know why I’m getting so much pushback here, but if you guys are cool with people creating new member profiles and posting entirely AI-generated photos then I’ll go ahead and fuck right off. I just wanted to point out my observations to spread awareness.
