I was wonder if anyone had any thoughts or ideas or even experience that would give an understanding of what dog has the softest tongue or lick?
St Bernards must be an exception but they do have lots of natural lubrication, like a slime machineIn my experience the smaller the breed, the softer the tongue.
I imagine a teacup sized dog would just tickle the edges, so you could be right ?I may be wrong. I do not have a large sample size. It might not be dependent on size at all.
it's the other way around in my experience. my big boy's (a caucassian shepherd) tongue is very soft, my girl's (kangal/gsd mix) is "in-betweeny" nice at first but gets coarse over time, i usually cut kissing sessions short because of it. small boy's (a schnauzer mix) is very coarse and both of my mother's yorkie girls (just face/hands, never anything else with them, they aren't mine) feel like sand paper. In my experience the smaller the breed, the softer the tongue.
We have a golden retriever and his tongue is rough. I think it would be ok actually if he didn’t act like he was trying to remove skin lol. I think he gets so intense and into it that he pushes real hard with his tongue. This is why I asked the question. Maybe it’s not only the bread but also how hard they lick too. i'd like to try the tongues of some of the "soft mouth" breeds someday, like a golden retriever.
