so what exactly does a neutered dog ejaculate if not sperm?

i have a neutered male (not my decision, please put down your pitchforks) who mounts regularly and is just as interested in sex as any intact male i've met. he doesn't cum obviously, but i've noticed if he's particularly worked up he'll ejaculate a clear liquid that really only serves to make him even hornier when he tastes it. does anyone know what that is? is it prostate fluid? (i don't have a dick btw so idk anything about all that nonsense!)

thanks!

I'm not a expert either but my guess is precum fluid, when my dog really cums it's white, before that it's totally clear. Nice to hear btw a neutered dog is still interested in mounting, are his balls completely gone or did he had a sterilization?

The long(ish) version:
Like most critters, dogs have various other "bits" that contribute most of what they ejaculate. The whole mixture (including the sperm cells supplied by the testicles) is collectively called "semen". The sperm cells are produced in the testicles, and "meet up with" the other stuff closer to the "exit door".

Testicles gone equals sperm cells gone, but does not imply that the rest of the "bits" stop functioning immediately. In most cases (not all, only the vast majority) castration kills off the source of testosterone (typically better than 98% of it - tiny amounts are produced in other glands, but that amount is so small it can pretty much be ignored) which in turn USUALLY (but not always - just the overwhelming majority of the time) leads to those "other bits" atrophying away to non-functionality. This doesn't happen instantly, like turning off a switch, but it does happen in nearly all cases. How long it takes to "kick in" to the point where the dog in question no longer squirts anything at all is variable by individual. Based on your description, I'd guess that your boy was cut less than a year ago, so the "other bits" are still in working order, doing what they're supposed to do, and producing what they're supposed to produce, allowing him to ejaculate sterile (no sperm cells) semen that, other than the lack of sperm cells (which make up a VERY tiny portion of the semen), is identical in every way to what he would have produced if his balls hadn't been cut off. The only thing missing is the sex drive that comes from having a full dose of testosterone in the system.

TL;DR:
It's the run-of-the-mill semen that any dog squirts, just minus the sperm cells, and it's PROBABLY being delivered in smaller quantities than he'd produce if he still had his balls. Expect the amount to decrease - probably all the way down to "absolutely nothing" eventually - as time passes.

interesting! yeah, he's totally ball-less :( it is a shame he can't cum normally, but honestly if i didn't already know he was neutered he could fool me into thinking he's intact. horniest dog i've ever met in my life.

Such a shame people do that to their worlds best companion, nice you still can enjoy each other, it's very rare but i know sometimes they stay active and interested after getting neutered.

Fluide séminal, le sperme est une partie assez mineure du fluide que vous voyez, la majeure partie de celui-ci est le soutien nutritionnel pour les spermatozoïdes.
there is no seminal fluid in dogs unlike in humans. it is either the liquid from the urethral glands (lubricant and bactericidal) or the prostatic liquid which is used to dilute the sperm which is concentrated..

Cum fractions:
that's exactly it and for my part, nothing to add....

yes known as "seminal fluid" that supports the sperm

I’ve always been curious why almost all dogs lose their sex drive, but when we have the snip it has no effect. Is it because they remove the balls completely?

Sperm is only 1 part of the ejaculate. Semen is the other. Sperm are produced by and stored in the testicles. Testicles are the only part removed during neutering, so only removes sperm.
Semen can still be produced.
