Should i talk to my therapist about being a Zoo?

Im sure someone in this forum has done it lol. If so what was it like and what did they say to you? My therapist is not a sex therapist of any kind but im very open with them and i trust them. Would telling them about being attracted to dogs cause some problems if i try to get one in the future?(i dont have one currently) I dont want the dog to get taken away because i opened up too much. :gsd_nervous:Advice is needed asappp <3

Is it something relevant to your problem and the therapy? (Like in if that part pf you is key to understand your issue)

In any case, *if* you need to tell, start with conditionals so he has a chance to say what he would need to do "if" it was the case, and non incriminating activities (like having an attraction vs having acted on it)

It really all depends. Where I am, it's legally safe to do so as they are mandatory reporters only for impending harm to others.
Outside of the legal aspects, there are still plenty of complications that can happen since therapists are people too and can have their hangups.

I would talk to them and ask them what they have to report, perhaps give some example and include bestiality as one of them and go from there. It can be hit or miss, it really depends on the therapist. Long ago I talked to a few when I was a younger man and there wasn't an internet where I could talk to others like me; one therapist was disturbed by the subject and did more harm than good and another who was very helpful. If you're comfortable with them and they're open to such discussion, perhaps.

Regardless of what one thinks of the podcast in general, the Zooier Than Thou Season 3 episode "Get Help" provides some relevant information and I recommend giving it a listen beforehand so you're better prepared.

I’m more on the side of caution. Probably wouldn’t if I needed too. And if I did, I wouldn’t admit to being active. I dodged a bullet myself (literally) on my own. But not many can. If it comes to that point I’d say yes. Life is more important than the stigma. As everything is situational, consider your risks.

NO! In many places, they are mandated reporters. While animal sex may not be mandated, your obviously a sexual deviant and then it will be too late.

Thanks i really appreciate this! ill listen to the episode as well ^^

I told my therapist and they became more distant over the next few sessions, said its not something they agree with but continued to help me although I dont feel it was as much as before, eventually I moved away and sessions became harder to organise so eventually stopped all together without really finishing anything.

You shouldnt .. trust me, i and many others here felt the same, shared your thoughts. Engaging with people feeling like me was so much more helpful than any therapist couldve ever been. At least when it comes down to .. well .. this.
yeah, looking back I think eventually it could have gotten better but not to where it could have been had I not said anything, engauging with people here like say is far more helpful than the therapist knowing / trying to help with a subject they are against or just unknowldgeable about.

I also love your profile banner and pic ?

Such a person is not a therapist, but a money guzzler.
A good therapist doesn't push a client away because he say they're attracted to animals.

I mentioned it to a therapist. Therapist didn't think it was relevant to depression, which I was there for. Like, meh, not a problem and not contributing to the problem you have. I appreciated that.

as long as it isn't relevant for your therapy, why should you?
and being attracted to animals isn't cause enough to get therapy, in and of itself.

WHY in the WORLD do you think you should tell your therapist? Just, why?
Don't bother answering that, because there is no good reason. I don't understand the need some people have to blabber about it to anyone who will listen!

good/bad reason there always is at least one
sometimes random stuff can turn out to be relevant
the better a therapist knows me, the better they can make useful suggestions

blabbing about to anyone who will listen... hard to say

you should know that therapist are obligated to report illegal activity. I would seriously rethink telling your therapist!

only if it is endangering your life or others, at least in the UK I am not sure about US but so long as you arent hurting yourself or others it should be protected under the client confidentiality stuff.

Simple psychology, letting go of mental weights. That's why many people say it.
I don't advise anyone either, but it's easy to understand why many people talk about it.

NO. THIS is simple psychology: Merely telling someone does not allow you to let go of "mental weights" if you're still doing it. That will do no good at all.
Plus, most states require psychs to report anything illegal being done by the patient. Some states let the psych decide, as in a case of abuse. If an anti-zoo psych decides you're abusing your animal, whether zoo is stated as "illegal" in that state or not, he/she will report you for such abuse.

More "simple psychology" for you: Zoo should not be a "mental weight" while you're still doing it.
If it's a mental weight for YOU, then you'd better stop doing it.

LoL, no need to go into so much detail.
It was just an assumption. :)
