What do you mean? I think in the paper above they are doing it as an alternative to dummy vaginas or dummy mounts. So basically rubbing horse dick to cum for semen collections and science!

Funny, we never talked about horse semen much in that class. Bull and boar semen on the other hand was a different story, sat there for 10minutes watching a video of a boar ejaculating into a mug one day for class. You know, for science....
