[Request] How to reduce large files?

ZableKing

Tourist
Hi, I am quite new to the forum and I have a few large files that I would like to share. Given the 250MB limitation of the forum, does anybody know how it is possible to reduce size of a file? Thank you all and long live the forum!

Use Handbrake or similar sw to lower the resolution or convert it into a different format with better compression.

I strongly advice against using any online tools. While they state in their privacy policy they delete the video from their servers after a few hours, you cannot be sure about that on a closed-down service. Furthermore, the Terms state that they might disclose any information they have about you if they feel like it:
In the event that we believe the user has commited a unethical activity (of any kind), we might disclose the data recorded in our log files.

Like @pes suggested, you could use Handbrake to encode the video locally with a better codec or reduce the resolution. VLC might also do the trick (guide), but its conversion UI is rather cumbersome. If it is a longer video, you could also split the video in different parts.

I'll give them that it's super easy to use without having to install an application or fiddle around with the configuration, and the probability that somebody is watching through all of the converted files is minuscule, yet it's better safe than sorry :gsd_happysmile:
